Artist Bio

Peter Matthew Bauer is a solo recording artist born in 1978 in Washington DC. A founder of seminal New York art rock band the Walkmen, he released 6 full length albums as part of the band before his first solo LP Liberation! (Mexican Summer) in 2014. He followed that up with Mount Qaf (Divine Love) at the end of 2017.

Over the last few years he founded his own record label/artist management company Fortune Tellers. The company represents artists such as Starcrawler, Liily, and Matt Costa and has recent label releases from the rapper/producer Lushlife, the indie band Caveman and new artist Caroline Kingsbury. Peter’s new single Mountains on Mountains is out February 2 on the imprint.

The song is the first of a series of singles and a larger full length down the line. The recording came about during last year’s election season when the artists Johanna Samuels and Ben Lee along with Peter’s company Fortune Tellers organized two festivals to benefit fairfight.org (September’s Fairfight Fest and December’s Save the Senate). The basic tracks were begun as a live performance for one of the festivals, recorded with Nick Stumpf (French Kicks, NVDES, Caveman) at his home in Los Angeles.
