Chicago-based electro-pop act Kinky Love have shared new track "Our Time (Mind Reader)" via Wonderland, who say "pulsating synths and ’90s-esque loops, mirroring the laid back ethereal quality of bands such as The xx, and it has a chilling quality that you won’t be able to shake."  The track is the first to be released from their new double single out this spring. The band will be playing on April 27th at Schuba's in their hometown Chicago, more info here.

Chemistry is at the heart of Chicago’s electro pop act Kinky Love, who recently found another perfect match with the addition of co-vocalist David Darrko. The singer and pianist rounds out the now-bonafide quartet, conjuring a silky ‘90s R&B croon that intuitively finishes the breathy pleas of frontwoman Xoe Wise.

A new collaborative effort, “Our Time (Mind Reader),” capitalizes on their magnetism in the fluid ethereal style of The xx and Rhye, with a soundtrack-worthy trip-hop spirit thanks to the added programming from keyboardists Dan Zima and Alan Shinkunas.

“There was a voice I could hear on David’s demo that was more than nice and pleasant, but interesting and memorable,” says band cofounder Zima. “Some other vocalists we tried out were technically good but didn’t grab our attention as much.”

Shinkunas agrees, saying, “This progression makes sense for us, and David’s voice allows us to further play with those ‘90s-sounding loops we love.”

Wise also adds, “Everyone has a unique voice in this band, and we get to do things in new ways with the addition of David. It only makes us better artists by shaking things up.”

Since forming in 2013, Kinky Love has become a synth pop steward, synonymous with the quick gratification their music provides. Singles likes the heavy vocal sample “Women Without” (which recently premiered on Nylon) and sultry “TV Girl” hones in on the dynamic of the group, with a layered gloss that combines frontwoman Wise's pop lust with Zima's mastery of '80s programming and Shinkunas' structured rock bent.

Chicago Tribune is among a number of media outlets praising the band, calling their music “slinky, synth-y and downright sexy,” while Idolator has compared Zima's manipulation of electronic sounds to early Pet Shop Boys. Tastemaker magazine NME also called Kinky Love one of the "14 New Bands to Round Off February."

To date, Kinky Love has released a debut EP, Promise, produced by Neal Ostrovsky (Urge Overkill, Local H, Plush, Hushdrops, Caviar) and featuring My Gold Mask’s Jack Armondo. The polish of songs like “Sugar” and “Counting on Distance” have garnered premieres with CLASH and The Line of Best Fit, an invitation to a Daytrotter Session and raved about appearances on shared bills with Jamaican Queens, JMSN and The 1975.

All of their music is available for streaming via SoundCloud and Spotify and for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.
