New York, NY: John The Martyr is not a man. It’s a band. More succinctly, a collective of musicians from around the globe who, together, have willed such an electrifying live show that their fan base grows exponentially every time they set foot on a stage.

John The Martyr is fronted by one Bill Hudson, as the story goes, having been discovered singing on an NYC subway, then assimilated by New Orleans native, songwriter/guitarist, Kyle Ridley, a kid with a briefcase of songs in search of a singer. Things moved quickly thereafter with the two who proved kindred spirits despite having some 45 years between them and the resulting demos inspired JTM’s other core members, Dustin DiSalvo and Chris Hines to follow from NOLA to NYC record some songs and put together a live band.

With a slew of rambunctious live shows and an album already recorded, John The Martyr is set to step into the light. New single “Cross The Line” is a massive freight train of a song featuring Hudson’s soulful vox, falling somewhere in between Al Green’s rich tenor and Billy Preston’s distinctive inflections, surrounded by a cadre of horns and an unrelenting, locked and loaded rhythm section.

Also offered is debut single, “Feeling Good,” with a willfully soul-bearing Hudson layin it down slow and steady over triumphant horns that prove a siren for sunshine. The song, which has been enjoying spins on LA’s uber influential KCRW, was featured last night on the Oprah Winfrey Network’s new hit show, Queen Sugar, created by Ava DuVernay and executive produced by Oprah. Both songs, and more of course, will fill out John The Martyr’s forthcoming debut long player on +1 Records.

As for the press, it’s been just a moment, but the pick up for JTM has been impressive, to-date, boasting features and segments in the New York Post (Sunday, Print Edition), AM New York, Fox 5 NY and Culture Trip, with more about to hit..

Now, if your curiosity at this point leaves you chomping at the bit to catch JTM’s live show, relief is just around the corner. John The Martyr are set to headline Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg on Friday, July 20th with Honey Island Swamp Band in support. Interested parties can get tix here, and glean more info here: http://www.johnthemartyr.com/explore. Beyond that, the band will return to the Django at The Roxy Hotel in NYC to kick off a monthly residency in August. Dates forthcoming.
