Doris Cellar is a singer-songwriter from Astoria, Queens New York and the leading lady of indie pop rock band Freelance Whales. Doris is a dynamic multi-instrumentalist whose musical style is broad and encompasses all genres of music. Surrounded by the hustle and bustle of her home town, as a teen, Doris would find escape by experimenting on her instruments through song writing and home recoding. She studied music at the City College of New York and after graduating in 2009 co-founded her band Freelance Whales along side Judah Dadone. While on tour with Freelance Whales in 2011, Doris picked up the only instrument she knew would fit in her purse, the ukulele, and wrote a batch of quirky love songs which she would later record on her roof with her iphone. In January of 2012, Doris released the songs on her band camp page as her first full-length album which she entitled "Up on the Roof". Shortly after its release Doris put out a three song EP called "Windows" which featured some of her older more electronic style compositions. Doris currently resides in New York City where she continues to write for her band and solo project and is set to go on back on tour in October of 2012 for their sophomore release entitled "Diluvia."
