NEMES (pronounced knee•miss) was formed by brothers Chris Anthony (Drums, Percussion) and Dave Anthony (Guitar, Vocals) in a Worcester, MA basement around 2,000 years ago. Led by duel-frontmen Dave Anthony and Josh Knowles (Violin, Vocals), and rounded out by multi-instrumentalist Alex Glover, the band showcases a metamorphosis of sound. Their music features warm, layered harmonies complimented by what Earmilk describes as “high-powered fiddle riffs and glistening folk melodies” on top of music containing “a nuclear power plant’s worth of energy.”
With quiet moments that wouldn’t be out of place on a folk compilation and louder passages that may conjure up memories of their pop-punk/hardcore youth, Nemes’ dynamic records form what Under the Gun Review calls “some of the most engaging music we’ve heard,” while their live performance finds the band expanding on their songs, improvising and injecting a new personality into each performance. In 2014, Nemes released their debut studio full-length album, “I Carry Your Heart,” followed by multiple tours of the Eastern US and performances supporting X Ambassadors and Guster, garnering shout-outs from national and international acts such as Alt-J and Nirvana.
After taking a brief step back to break from touring, Nemes headed back the studio with producer Mike Sapone (Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Boston Manor) to record their second full-length album, a violin driven, rock-focused effort that draws upon the band’s early influences and showcases the group at their best – fragile and loud. Preceded by the dynamic, moody single “60 Days,” the album will be released in early 2019.
