BIOGRAPHY

Chemistry is at the heart of Chicago’s electro pop act Kinky Love, who recently found another perfect match with the addition of co-vocalist David Darrko. The singer and pianist rounds out the now-bonafide quartet, conjuring a silky ‘90s R&B croon that intuitively finishes the breathy pleas of frontwoman Xoe Wise.

Since forming in 2013, Kinky Love has become a synth pop steward, synonymous with the quick gratification their music provides. Singles likes the heavy vocal sample “Women Without” (which recently premiered on Nylon) and sultry “TV Girl” hones in on the dynamic of the group, with a layered gloss that combines frontwoman Wise’s pop lust with Zima’s mastery of ’80s programming and Shinkunas’ structured rock bent.

Chicago Tribune is among a number of media outlets praising the band, calling their music “slinky, synth-y and downright sexy,” while Idolator has compared Zima’s manipulation of electronic sounds to early Pet Shop Boys. Tastemaker magazine NME also called Kinky Love one of the “14 New Bands to Round Off February.”

To date, Kinky Love has released a debut EP, Promise, produced by Neal Ostrovsky (Urge Overkill, Local H, Plush, Hushdrops, Caviar) and featuring My Gold Mask’s Jack Armondo. The polish of songs like “Sugar” and “Counting on Distance” have garnered premieres with CLASH and The Line of Best Fit, an invitation to a Daytrotter Session and raved about appearances on shared bills with Jamaican Queens, JMSN and The 1975.
