New York City pop-artist Juletta wishes we’d slow down. Amidst the digital bustle of modern life, Juletta’s ethereal pop music offers a place of respite. Borne in Danville, CA, Juletta (real name Madeline DeWalt) first began making music with her younger sister, Genevieve. The two spent their childhoods making songs together and performing for family members under an ever-changing list of band names.
In November of 2018 the pop songstress released her debut project Wild Nature. The 5-track EP, written in the midst of the artist’s decision to leave her childhood home and pursue music in New York, chronicles a time of great transition, its songs touch on themes of change, love and family. Produced entirely by close collaborator Ishan, Wild Nature has since gone on to accrue over 175,000 streams on Spotify, led by its infectious single “Across the World”. The single and its accompanying music video, directed by New York photographer and videographer Eva Zar, were featured in the popular online publication Milk.
Since releasing Wild Nature, Juletta has been busy at work on her debut album. The project, which will once again feature Ishan on production, was conceived in the winter of 2018 and will include songs inspired by a series of interviews Juletta conducted with women in New York City that following summer. In the artists own words: “This project is a testament to female strength, love and identity– through my lens on the women around me.”
“A song born out of her traveling adventures, the Ishan-produced track is filled with jazz piano chords and delicate synths, as overhead luggage bells ring to introduce the chorus and harp arpeggios glisten to suggest floating above the clouds.”
