Singer/songwriter Jonas Alaska (born 1988) has made quite a name for himself both in and outside of Scandinavia the last few years. Alaska makes beautiful songs with remarkable lyrics, combined with clever and often shamelessly catchy tunes.
Alaska success story begun with his gold selling debut album, for which he was nominated for 3 Norwegian Grammy awards, and took home the prize for “Best New Act” in 2011. His first ever single “In The Backseat” reached #5 in the Norwegian radio charts, The second single to hit the single charts “October”, where Alaska’s telling the story of a family member who died in a drowning accident, was performed by Jonas on one of Norways biggest talkshows, and made him a national celebrity overnight.
To describe Jonas Alaska’s music, critics often turn to legends such as Paul Simon, John Lennon and Bob Dylan and Sir Paul McCartney. Jonas even had the unique opportunity to join the latter for a half hour song-writing session at the end of his graduation at Liverpool School Of Performing Arts in 2011. But importantly, as one critic wrote: “He’s wearing tight jeans, boots and plays the guitar and harmonica, but he is still not a Dylan-copy. Jonas Alaska has his own unique sound, his very own songs that reflect the day and age we live in.”
Alaska’s music is ranging from heart-wrenching ballads with captivating harmonies to up-tempo songs influenced by Americana, Folk and Pop. However Jonas Alaska always manage to keep an original lyrical and melodic expression.
In 2017 Alaska is releasing his fourth album in six years, Fear Is A Demon. The album will be released on his new record label, Braveheart Records, which he recently started with best mates Billie Van and Mikhael Paskalev.
Alaska’s lyrics are spanning from timeless themes, such as love, politics and tragedies to the simple things in life that we all can relate to.
