BIOGRAPHY

Book of J is a freak-folk duo with diaspora consciousness, at the intersection of the sacred and the radical. Braiding American religious music with Yiddish songs of ghosts and police violence, Book of J sounds like the Weavers for the end of days. Using virtuoso fingerpicking guitar and lush vocal harmonies, Jeremiah and Jewlia sing of angels and demons, workers and bosses, diasporic languages, erotic longing, close-text reading, hard times resolved and destiny fulfilled. Their intimate and intense sound is very much in evidence on their self-titled debut album, recorded like an old time record, all in single takes, in a single room, to analog tape.
